How to Block/Allow Scripts Automatically
CookieForte gives you control over how scripts are categorized and blocked on your website. You can choose between automatic and manual script management when creating a new banner.
Automatic Script Categorization
The automatic option simplifies script management by intelligently categorizing scripts during website scans.
How Automatic Categorization Works
When CookieForte performs a website scan with automatic mode enabled:
- Database Check: Each discovered script is checked against CookieForte's script database
- Known Scripts: If a script is found in the database, it's automatically assigned to the appropriate category
- Unknown Scripts: For scripts not in the database:
- First-party scripts (pointing to your domain) are marked as "Do not block" since they're typically technical and necessary
- Third-party scripts are automatically categorized as "Marketing"
Switching Between Automatic and Manual Mode
You can change your script categorization setting at any time:
- Navigate to Websites and Banners
- Select your banner
- Click Settings
- Toggle between Automatic and Manual mode
Important Note: Only newly discovered scripts are affected by the automatic/manual setting. Existing scripts retain their current categorization.
Re-categorizing Existing Scripts
To apply new categorization rules to existing scripts:
- Go to your banner's Scripts section
- Delete the scripts you want to re-categorize
- Run a new website scan
- The scanner will re-discover and categorize these scripts according to your current settings
Manual Script Categories
In the Scripts section, you can manually assign each script to one of four categories:
Do not block
Scripts in this category will always load and are never blocked by the cookie banner.
Preferences
Scripts are blocked until the user explicitly consents to the Preferences category through your cookie banner.
Statistics
Scripts are blocked until the user agrees to allow Statistics cookies and tracking.
Marketing
Scripts are blocked until the user consents to Marketing cookies and advertising tracking.
Best Practices
- Use automatic mode for faster setup, especially on websites with many third-party scripts
- Review automatically categorized scripts periodically to ensure proper classification
- Consider the user experience when categorizing scripts - essential functionality should use "Do not block"
- Test your website after changing script categories to ensure everything works as expected
